APNIC collaborated closely with ICANN and IANA by coordinating an IPv6 Panel Discussion for ICANN 41 participants.  A session on domain name registries and registrars, "The Need for IPv6 Deployment in the Domain Business", was held on 23 June 2011 in Singapore during ICANN 41.

There were more than 150 participants, representing a wide range of Internet community stakeholders.

Several high-caliber speakers from different sectors presented, including Mr. Mun Yuen Leong (Singapore iDA), Mr. Hideo Ishii (PACNET), Mr. Joe Waldron (Verisign), Martin Levy (Hurricane Electric) and Ms. Miwa Fujii (APNIC).  The session was moderated by Keith Davidson ([InternetNZ]).

The presentations emphasized the need for domain name registries and registrars to deploy IPv6 now for the sake of business continuity.  In particular:

  • AAAA resource records need to be injected into domain name servers
  • Glue records must be configured into root server

Registrars especially need to start preparing their external servers (web servers, email servers, and DNS servers) for IPv6 to cater to the needs of IPv6-only end users.
